This is a "web
log" (aka "blog"), a system that allows invited users to dynamically post
text and links to a shared web page. It's also possible to start a discussion
thread from any post. The site is hosted at
jaguarpc
with
Blogger powering the posting and comment
functions.
The intended users are the now far flung members the "1885 Schoolhouse Gang", folk who came of age
together at a dynamic social and political period in the world and who, through this time, inhabited
or habituated a one room redbrick structure in Northeastern Ohio. Hence the name and purpose of the blog.
To become a posting member you must have a strong connection to this group and
ask for an invitation, which will be generated from Blogger.
This invitation will make it much easier for you to sign up there and join the right blog. The domain
7393 is (and I shouldn't have to tell any prospective members this) the house number of the red brick
structure mentioned above.
It's my hope that the community this is intended for will find it useful and enjoyable.
Any RBT member can ask for an address (yourname@7393.org) by
emailing
me with a desired username and password. There are a limited number available and they are free,
though should you use one please consider making a small yearly donation towards the care and feeding of tRBT.
A 7393 email account has (at least at present) no limitations on file storage or attachment size. It can be
client based (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mozilla, Thunderbird, etc.) or web based (very handy when away from your
home PC), or both together.
We host our own picture gallery at the 7393 site using
Gallery, the open source web based photo album organizer.
While (at present) anyone can browse the albums there RBT members are welcome, make that encouraged, to register themselves and become users. Doing so will
automatically create your own top level album which you can upload to and organize (create sub-albums, etc.) as you wish. The Gallery software is
feature rich and, as with any feature rich environment, can look a bit complex at first glance. Relax, it's really not that tough. A bit of
experimentation and the help screens should see you through. I do ask that you be as conservative as possible with the file sizes of pictures you
upload. Please keep your dpi's as low as possible while still acheiving the desired quality.
